2006 Club News

21st June

After what seems like an eternity having to look at our locked portacabin, some progress has been made towards turning it into our new clubhouse.

After much to-ing and fro-ing between solicitors acting for the club and Craigavon Borough Council, the lease has finally been approved and is ready for signing. Such matters as the club being required to have trustees who could be held liable, and some confusion that the council would own the clubhouse at the end of the five year lease period all needed to be resolved. Now the negotiations are complete, the lease should be signed within the next couple of weeks. Once this is done, we'll be able to bring power and water services from the existing council facilities.

A contractor has been appointed to provide a metal fence around the clubhouse complex, this is of great importance as our current insurance cover for the building requires it be in a fenced compound. Hopefully the fence will be installed as soon as the lease is signed.

Currently, two quotations have been received for the fitting out of the inside of the building, two other companies asked to quote have not responded. The quotes are being submitted to a quantity surveyor for appraisal, and we are hopeful of receiving one other quote before appointing a contractor. Rather than have the usual July break, the committee have agreed to reconvene when any further quotes are received, so we can appoint a contractor as quickly as possible.

Without the use of the clubhouse, there has been some discussion about the (lack of) communication available to club members regarding scheduled events. To try to address this, as a temporary measure, Paddy Prunty has granted us some space on a new noticeboard being installed in the marina cafe. The board should be installed in the next couple of weeks, so keep a lookout in the marina cafe for anything club-related. Additionally, any notifications will be posted on the club website and distributed by e-mail. The committee is also investigating the possibility of using mobile phone text messaging to notify members of important changes. We should know more information on this shortly.

21st September

Exactly 3 months since the last update, the longest day is now but a memory, and the dark nights drawing in. As anyone who's been down to Kinnego in the last few weeks can see, progress on the clubhouse has been rapid of late. Following a tender process, Ali Johnston and Stevie Collins were awarded the contract to fit out the clubhouse, and commenced work 3 weeks ago. With one week to go before the scheduled completion date, and two weeks before LNSC hosts the J24 Autumn Trophy, there is stil work to be done, but the pictures below show the progress so far.

From a legal standpoint, the club's trustees, comprising the Commodore (Dylan Lyness), Vice Commodore (Tim Sheard), Treasurer (George Houston) and Secretary (John Williams) attended Watson and Neill Solicitors on Thursday 14th September to sign the lease on behalf of the club. Craigavon Borough Council were due to meet to approve the lease on September 18th. Due to the close proximity of the J24 event, the club have been given permission to open a services trench prior to the lease being signed, work was expected to commence on this on 19th September, and be completed around 27th September.

Hopefully theses photos will show the progress that's been made for those who haven't visited the site in a while.
