Lough Neagh Sailing Club invite any Dinghies and Small Keelboats (Flying Fifteens / Squibs etc) to our Spring Regatta on 17th April 2010.
Briefing at 10.30am, first gun at 11.55am. Three races are scheduled.

LNSC Spring Regatta 2010 - Sailing Instructions
1. RULES
1.1 Racing shall take place under the current ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (2009-12), prescriptions of the RYA and these sailing instructions.
2. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
2.1 The safety of a boat and her entire management including insurance to the minimum level recommended by the RYA shall be the sole responsibility of the owner/person in charge, who must ensure that the boat and crew are adequate to face the conditions that may arise in the course of the race. Neither these sailing instructions nor the inspection of the boat limits or reduces the absolute responsibility of the owner/person in charge for the crew, the boat and her management.
The race organisers shall not be responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury howsoever caused to the owner/person in charge or crew, as a result of their taking part in the race or races. Moreover, every person/owner in charge warrants the suitability of the boat for the race or races.
2.2 An entry form must be signed prior to entry and a fee of £5 to be paid for each boat – please contact Jeff Harrison.
3. SAFETY
3.1 It shall be the sole responsibility of those sailing each boat to decide whether or not to start or to continue to race.
3.2 Sufficient personal buoyancy equipment for all crewmembers must be worn on all boats taking part in the series, organised by LNSC (regardless of weather conditions). This rule changes RRS 40.1. Wet/dry suits are not considered adequate buoyancy.
4. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
4.1 Any changes to the sailing instructions will be posted on the notice board outside the clubhouse, a period of not less than 1 hour before the advertised race time.
5. SCHEDULE OF RACES
5.1 Sailing Schedule:

5.2 Briefing will be held at LNSC clubhouse at 10.30am on 17/04/10.
5.3 The next race will start 5 minutes after the last boat has finished the previous race.
5.4 If in the event of adverse weather conditions 1 or more races will constitute the Regatta otherwise 3 races must be sailed.
6. RACING CLASSES
6.1 LNSC will run one class for all boats. Handicaps will be issued to boats under PY.
7. COURSES
7.1 The Officer of the Day will indicate by boards on the starting battery the course.
7.2 The course will be around the LNSC marks – Appendix one has a map of the club markers.
7.3 If the board is green then the mark must be sailed to starboard and if the board is red it must be sailed to port.
7.4 Mark 1 will always be sailed to starboard followed by the wing mark which will be sailed to starboard.
7.5 Mark ‘S’ is a special mark which will be a yellow inflatable mark with no set position. This mark will be set before the start of each race. All other marks are stationary.
7.6 All Navigation Marks must be adhered to.
8. THE START
8.1 First Gun will be at 1155 hrs, but may be postponed by the Officer of the Day (E.g. adverse weather conditions).
8.2 Starting Line. The starting line will be the line formed between the flagpole at the starting battery and the outer distance mark (white pole) on the shore.
8.3 Starting Procedure. Races will be started by using RRS rule 26 (5,4,1,0). One start for all boats.
8.4 A boat starting later than 10 minutes after the starting signal will be scored Did Not Start.
9. SHORTENING COURSE AND CHANGING COURSE
9.1 After the start, the Race Officer may shorten the course, (display flag ‘S’, with two sounds, or abandon the race, display flag ‘N’ with three sounds RRS Rule 32.
9.2 To change the position of the next mark or send the boats to a different mark, or extend the course, the change will be signalled (displaying flag C with repetitive sounds) before the leading boat has begun the leg.
10. FINISHING
10.1 The finishing line is between the flagpole at the starting battery and the outer distance mark (white pole) on the shore.
10.2 As the lead boat approaches the finishing line, the class flag will be lowered and each boat will be finished with one sound.
11. TIME LIMITS
11.1 Races will have a time limit of 1 hour 15 minutes for the first boat.
11.2 Boats that fail to finish within 25 minutes after the first boat in the same class will be scored Did Not Finish.
12. PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS
12.1 Protests will be governed as set out by the ISFA, The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-12 rule 60 and these sailing instructions.
12.2 The protest limit is 1 hour after the last boat has finished the last race of the day. Competitors must inform the Race Officer of their decision to protest within this time. The same protest time limit applies to all protests by the race committee and to requests for redress.
12.3 Notices will be posted within 30 minutes of the protest time limit to inform competitors of the time and place of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses.
12.4 Notices of protests by the race committee will be posted to inform boats under RRS rule 61.1(b).
12.5 A protest committee shall be organised by any member of the sailing committee, once asked to do so by the Race Officer.
13. SCORING
13.1 The Low Point scoring system of RRS Appendix A will apply. Boats that did not start, did not finish, retired after finishing or was disqualified shall be scored points for the finishing place one more than the number of boats entered in a series.
13.2 Discards – There will be no discards for the 3 races.
13.3 The corrected time for a finishing boat during the series will be calculated in the form of PY handicaps.
14 PRIZE GIVING
14.1 Prizegiving will be held after the last race in the clubhouse.
15 GENERAL
15.1 All members are requested to give due consideration to all other users of the water and within the vicinity of the club.
15.2 All members are expected to keep to LNSC rules and regulations in the vicinity of the Club’s grounds.
